I have a 'decent' laptop (Lenovo y470, i7 2.2 ghz, 8 gb ram, Radeon HD 7690M) and it trashed it. If you have a laptop and your game crashes, stop playing immediately until you've figured out whether your system can handle it. The main point is that you should be very careful, especially if your computer cannot handle heat well, just as mine did.
Yes, it was this game (reasons why I know are long and unimportant). I know it was Civ V because of timing (problems started happening only with this game) and because of the behavior of errors. I only realized this when it was too late.
I did not know that Civ V was an extremely graphics-demanding game (it doesn't look like one, but it is) and that it can overheat your card to the point of damaging it.
